When someone is mad at you
Or you are mad at them,
It sometimes helps to remember that
There is more to your relationship than the offending event(s)
That seem to taint everything the other person does.
That there is something worth fighting for
Because if there wasn’t – you wouldn’t be mad.
So once you have grown tired of your Cold War of not talking to each other
And you are ready for reconciliation,
Here is a little bit of advice:
Ask a good question.
Preferably one that has nothing to do with your offense in the first place
And definitely not one laced with sarcasm or hints at how bad the other person has made you feel,
But something that will show that you still see them as a person worth talking to at the least.
They may be suspicious at first
But go ahead and ask.
Ask about something that matters to them.
You would be surprised
What would happen when you simply remind them of the beauty of relationship
And you remind yourself of their humanity.
Because face it,
That relationship is worth more than your pride.
When all is said and done- you will not be happy with your trade if you exchange your relationship for the fleeting feeling of being right.
When you’re ready to talk,
Put your gun down and have a conversation.
It’s worth the trouble.
