Other people’s biases

Right now there may be people choosing against you

And what you have to offer

On the basis of your race, your nationality

Your gender, your age, your religion and so on.

Right now. As we speak.

We may never be aware of most of these decisions that people are making

And sometimes it will play out in front of you,

Making you wonder who else is discriminating against you.

And while it is important to fight for a fairer world

Its also important to remember that you are not responsible for other people’s biases.

True change might take a while.

And in the meantime

Many of us steep ourselves in self-doubt, questioning  whether we missed certain opportunities

‘Because I am black’ or because what I have to offer just isn’t for them.

Sure. Be excellent. Do your best to do a good job

But don’t live your life to make a point,

Or put yourself under enormous pressure to be perfect

Or worse still, allow your heart to grow bitter

There are people that are going to choose against  you regardless.

And that’s on them.

You may not have what they want. And that might not change.

Be okay with that.

Press on. Its not about them.

Live your best life.

Opportunity is a gift from God.

Remember the LORD your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.

-Deuteronomy 8:18.

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

-Ecclesiastes 9:11

  1. This is a great word bro.
“I am not responsible for other people’s biases”

    So true!

My job is to run my race. There will be people who don’t like me or have their opinion of me but that should not determine what I can or can’t do.
