Education as a distraction

High rates of unemployment,

Un-evolved educational systems

And small imaginations on the part of our leadership

Has created a strange phenomenon amongst our generation;

Where we find ourselves pursuing further education we don’t need for no other reason

Than that we don’t have much else to do.

No job. So more school.

Could it be that the very thing we saw as a ticket into adulthood

Is helping us stay in perpetual adolescence?

Don’t get me wrong, many of us are finding paths in academia

That we may not have discovered had we found our dream jobs,

And in and of itself, education can be a liberating thing,

But for too many of us

It’s becoming a massive distraction.

A place to hide,

Until we can find a place to call home in the world.

How can it be? That the very thing that is meant to liberate from cycles of drudgery

Is creating a cycle of its own?

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
