Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.”
The joy of Christian hope allows us to not only receive
but also rejoice in gifts we did not deserve;
Strength we did not acquire.
Resources we did not store up.
Freedom we did not fight for.
A kind of completion that is only possible when the human heart
Sees itself for what it really is,
Comes to terms with the futility of self-help,
Gives up the self-defeating mechanizations of spending a lifetime trying to compensate for the losses of this life,
And finally embraces the Piece that was missing all along.
