Refill

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.

2 Corinthians 4:16

There’s a sinking feeling I get

When I see my fridge emptying

Or my bank balance receding,

As a consequence of consuming food

And spending money.

This is somewhat illogical, but I can’t help but hate

Depletion.

Perhaps the worst manifestation of this

Is my need for daily encouragement

For how hungry my heart gets for assurance

As though yesterday’s victories were not enough.

I resent how much I need love

How desperately my mind craves recognition

How today’s anxieties are just as wearisome

As yesterday’s.

This is the reality of the day to day.

Steady decline.

Entropy.

Yet God in His wisdom

Knows that each day has its own trouble

So He gave each new day

It’s own mercies;

So responsive He is, to our daily realities

That we need not “stock up” for tomorrow

For we know He will be there

Ever ready, giving us just what we need for that day;

A refill.

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Matthew 6:34

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
