Is in the past.
Together with all the other events of our personal history.
Dwelling on wasted opportunities
Is beneficial to a point,
As is relishing the successes of the past.
Reflecting can often be useful
But can become its own sordid pastime.
The reality is,
We no longer live there.
The friends we made
The things we did
The circumstances that shaped us
Will never play out again for a re-run.
Sure, learn from the past
As wonderful or as horrendous as it has been,
But have no illusions- there is no going back.
No re-takes. No turning back the hands of the clock.
We have today.
And its possibilities.
Dwell on that.
Say not “Why were the former days better than these?” For it is not from wisdom that you ask this.
