It is Good

The Biblical narrative shows us a God
Who crushes on his own work.
When no one else was around
He said it was good.
Many people say they are their own worst critics
And I have been one of them for a long time.
And if I am honest the criticism
Often reaches far beyond the work itself.
It tells me that I am not a good enough person
To make good work.
But what if I, like God,
Crushed on my own work?
What if I too said
‘It is good’
And left it at that.
No deep and unforgiving narrative
In my own head.
No foreboding spirit
That never seems happy with the work.
What if I, too, simply said
‘It is good’
And shipped?
