Has its place.
Repairs in your home.
Painting a back wall.
Planting a garden.
But its not always useful
As a posture for being a part of community.
Other human beings can be simultaneously
Our greatest joys and deepest frustrations:
There is no way of having one without
The possibility of the other.
When your self-sufficiency
Keeps you from accepting the contributions of others,
It creates a chasm between us.
There’s no give and take;
A limited opportunity for generosity,
And certainly no room for the kind of gloriously unscripted interchange
That only fellow humanity brings.
‘Do it yourself’
Is a great motto for a lot of things
But community is not one of them.
It is not good for man to be alone
