Science in real time

Is messy.
Because it is glaringly obvious
That there are more things we don’t know
Than things we do,
We haven’t yet gained enough knowledge
To give us the illusion of control
And maybe that is the reality at the core that
We are grappling with most of all in this pandemic:
That we are not truly in control
And maybe we never were.
The past eighteen months have been tragic
Taxing
Exhausting
And we’ve been grappling with realities
Few of us were taught to anticipate and we’ve
Watched the science unfold before
Our very eyes.
Science in real time is messy
And as we debate what to next
It would help to acknowledge that
