Joy along the way

God didn’t wait
Until day number seven
To say
‘Ít is good.’
He said it from
The very first day.
Before the seas were teeming
With fish
Or the skies punctuated
With constellations,
Or the hills and fields
Were filled with tall grass and fragrant flowers.
No, on that first day
With having just
Separated light from darkness,
He pronounced satisfaction,
Delight, even.
Joy along the way
Is often hard to find
Because we often find ourselves
Standing in the midst
Of progress that we once
Could only dream of
And yet somehow because there is
Still more to be done,
Joy escapes us,
As though the only time
We can truly be happy
Is once every hill is climbed
Every dream realized
And every endeavor
Blessed are those that can say
Of their early days
And awkward attempts:
‘Ít is good’

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
