On being your own engine

In the early days
You typically can’t afford
To hit the snooze button,
You don’t have enough of a track record
To be afforded the benefit of the doubt,
You can’t afford a psychologist
To help you work out your
Mental angst
And you can’t afford
To be sick.
In the early days
Of many endeavors
You are your own engine,
You must self regulate
And self motivate.
Sometimes all you can do
Is keep the project moving
With no extra energy to figure out
If you’re going in the best direction.
For the entrepreneurs and
The innovators,
The self-starters
And the ones
Taking leaps of faith,
The ones with no team,
No cheerleader,
No freaking idea what they’re doing-
Do what it takes
To keep the engine going
Because for now,
You’re all you’ve got.
And hopefully,
God willing,
You’ll soon get the help
You need.

Do not despise these small beginnings,
for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin

-Zechariah 4:10
