Time doesn’t respect us

It goes on indiscriminately
It will not hurry through
Life’s horrifying corridors
And it will not linger
On the sweetly satisfying mountaintops
Nor circle back for a replay.
It does not care.
It will not stop.
It will not repeat.
How valid our need
For time to speed up
Or slow down
Or come back again.
It will not be cajoled
Or reasoned with.
And in the end
Whether you respected time
Or not
It will not wait up for you
Or pause even for a moment
To consider your life
On that day
When your time
Is up.
