Is a pretty bleak approach to
Swimming.
Avoiding loss
Is a constrcited view of competing.
Protecting oneself from heartbreak
Is a poor recipe for a fulfilling relationship
And yet after we’ve been diasppointed enough
A crooked gait
May be all we’ve got.
Perhaps not today
And maybe not anytime soon,
But one day
You’ll remember why you
Got in the pool in the first place
Why you raised your hand
To enter the race
Why after all the drama and trauma
Love is worth it after all.
