Faulty Diagnostics

Sometimes what we’re wrestling
In our struggles with other people
Is the story we have told ourselves
About who they are
And what their intentions have been
All along.
We run a few preliminary tests
To confirm what we already believe
And then arrive at an unchallangeable
Of who they are.
We knew it – we were right.
And so we sit there
Victoriously showing off our
Faulty diagnosis,
Low key proud of ourselves for
Being so perceptive,
So woke
Deciding that life would probably be
A lot simpler if we lived it
More attuned to our own conclusions
And more in touch with
Our own diagnosis of humanity
Than with any actual human being.
