Grieving Friendship

Grief is a form of praise.
Praise for the person
I no longer have,
Strong regard
For the seasons passed
And inevitable sadness
That those days are gone.
The shoulders I used to cry on
The eyes I would confide in
The phone calls that made it all make sense.
The tears I shed today
Are awash with gratitude
Glad to have had companions that understood me
Ready to shoulder my burden
Laugh at my folly
Delight in each other’s story.
And as we move ahead
To the next chapter
I am thankful to have had your friendship,
For your humanity,
Thankful to have found
Parts of myself
In you.
