Writing for Reincarnation

The pen does so much more than
Record our present thoughts
Or disperse our ideas
Far and wide
For others to savor.
The pen presents an opportunity
For a part of ourselves
To exist outside of our physical members
On a page
For others to encounter.
Every day I populate my mind
With the written words of great writers,
From ancient scribes of sacred texts
To contemporary authors of the 21st century-
People I will likely never meet in person,
And yet their lives
Inform so much of my own
As though they were a person
Living in my very house.
Writing does so much more
Than record the thoughts of the writer-
It reincarnates them.

We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect’
-Anais Nin
