Uncapped dreams

Some of us are living lives today

That were impossible

Not so long ago.

Race and geography,

Though still a ways to go,

Are not as definitively limiting

As they once were.

And so some of us

Are becoming privileged insiders

Of worlds that didn’t have us in mind

At their inception.

The question now is,

What will we do with our privilege?

With our uncapped dreams?

With so much possibility

Are we going to use our newfound gains

To insulate ourselves from the harsh realities

That so many of our contemporaries still struggle under?

Or will we use our moment of lift

To lift another?

Surely if we are the ones now

With the power to influence the future

We can build it with more people

Than ourselves in mind?
