The trouble with resurrections

Is that we can’t pull them off.
We often want stories that are linear,
Straight lines from victory to victory:
Not stillborn dreams
Not crumbling empires
And definitely not the death
Of our greatest ambitions-
Because its hard to come back
From the dead.
There is One who died
And returned from death
Undoing the things
That had left us undone,
Giving us what we needed most
But had no way of making possible:
One of the hardest parts
Of being human
Is to lose things we’ve loved
And to be faced with a future
We can’t control but only anticipate.
Christ rising for the dead
Is a deathly blow to human independence
For God has invaded history
And breathed life once again
Into the dust,
Making a miracle of new life
Were none was possible.
