Privileged fools

Privilege does not necessarily make us fools
But it easily can.
Not because it dimishes our intellect
Or erodes our common sense,
But because our advantages
Have simplified our daily experiences,
Reducing the enormity of life
To bite-size chunks,
Taming our existence,
Shielding us from harsh realities
That others know as commonplace.
These are not sins to repent of
Or blessings to overlook,
But a lens to be aware of
Lest we think that everyone
Sees the world as we do.
