Temple

There is a place
Where fears are stilled
Hearts are lifted
Burdens are lessened
And hope awakened:
The temple.
We do not go to the temple
To make a name for ourselves
To have our preferences met
Or to have people applaud us
For we are not the ones being worshipped.
We go to the temple
To see for ourselves that the story of life
Is larger than our own;
That despite our floundering,
Redemption is possible;
To find that beneath rock bottom
Are everlasting arms,
So we can live reminded
That the greatest parts of being alive
Are things we never toiled for.
