Soft Power

Every so often
Some of us find ourselves
With the means to shape things
Significantly
Remarkably
Decisively.
To exist in the world
In such a way that
Makes room for others to thrive
To suffer less
To prosper.
Power is at it’s weakest
When used for small ambitions;
Personal enrichment and short term aspirations.
Power at it’s greatest
Is soft.
Soft enough for the broken to lie on
Yet strong enough to break the things that break people down.
Hard on things like poverty, corruption and inequality
And yet ultimately having a soft spot
For what really matters.
The job, therefore, of the leader to use their power
To be hard on the right things
And soft on everything else.
