Seeds of destruction

Each of us carries
Within our own members
The machinery necessary
For our personal catastrophe;
Unrealistic demands
On the people will love,
Self destructive tendencies
Stemming from a sense of inadequacy
Overweening pride
That sucks everything we love
Into a self-serving vortex.
Half the battle of being happy
It seems, is weeding out
The sapplings that have sprouted
From our own seeds
Of discontent.
