Load shedding

A reminder that all is not well.
That the taxes you pay (or don’t)
Don’t insulate you from the
Consequences
Of poor administration.
Being literally left in the dark
And thinking that this is a metaphor
For the current state of the nation
And wondering if this is your life now,
And whether you would have these problems
If someone else was in power
Or if you lived in another state.
The majority of human beings in history
Lived without electricity
And yet that fact is not comforting
When you live in a modern city
That routinely rations it.
We expect better
Yet sadly we are getting used to this.
And now that my battery is dying as I write this
It will just have to suffice to say:
Load shedding
Sucks.
